My Weekend : Birthday In Singapore

This saying from SATC cannot be any more true. Instead of buying birthday presents for each other, I would rather invest in experiences when it comes to my favourite people. Going on a simple day trip and spending 12 hours in Malacca last year for my 26th was such a good memory. Tati's birthday trip to Bangkok a few years back is something we still talk about up until today, especially through the videos. Honestly, it doesn't have to be a grand gesture or any big shabang really because I'm all about tiny little celebrations. A little effort goes a long way.

So this year it's Singapore! During the long weekend, a bunch of us drove down south, and just got away from it all. Since we've never been to the National Gallery Singapore before, that's our first pit stop.





The museum was hugeeee! With a map in our hands, we conquered floor by floor, crossing one exhibition at a time. There were some that were less interesting than others. Some of the things that were in my head :

"This is a museum for goodness sake. Stop laughing. "
"There's a security guard at that corner. Behave please Ya Allah."
"Do not call on Tati because you are going to laugh even more. DON'T DO IT!!" *refer to 3:03 as reference*
"This banana on top of this lady's head is making me hungryyyy"
"YOWZA that's huge"
"Did I forget to bring a snack in my bag... wait... oh yeah i did...zzzz......"

Yeah...so we made boomerang videos instead.


We went in appreciating the art and to learn about history (and learnt tons, we did) but holli macaroni, the gift shop on the lower level is aaaaaaaaa-mazing. It will lead you to Gallery & Co where they stock the best of the best of local brands and some international ones. Everything was curated to perfection!!






Try not to skip the top floor though because the view's incredible.


Fancy dinners make me uncomfortable. I donch knowww but I've just never been a fan. Am I alone in this? helllooo.. anyone there? Tati howeverrr convinced me into agreeing to a (semi!)fancy birthday dinner at PS.Cafe on Harding Road. We went to PS.Cafe two years back and fell in love with the ambience and music. You guys, seriously, can you please just find the tiniest excuse to celebrate and just go there at night with your favourite people? It's cozy-ville.
So yes. PS.Cafe, mama likey.




To cap off the night, we went for a walk at Gardens By The Bay which closes slightly after midnight. If I have to list my top ten happy places, Gardens By The Bay is definitely up there. Well done la Singapore, you really hit the nail on the head with this one. With zero crowd and breezy weather, conversations will go on forever. You won't regret it :)

This sweet gem of a cafe was located opposite our hotel. Chye Seng Huat Hardware just has that je ne sais quoi. From one angle it looked very Palm Springs-y (the cactuses), and then it made me miss Shoreditch, but I also got a very Melbourne vibe too, bolehhhh? So too cool for school, this one.




Before hitting the road, we stopped by Zam Zam to have their murtabak daging, baby. From there, of course we had to visit Tiong Bahru even if it's for a little while. Looking at the buildings here never gets old. Seriously la, how are the back alleys here so clean?? Hats off to you yet again, Singapore.


Birthdays are (usually) a joyful memory because there's something worth remembering about that occasion. Thankful would be an understatement. This trip is definitely going in the books. xxxxxox
